From the harbour to the airport

The orange Kuko Line (K) runs 13 stations from Meinohama to Fukuoka Airport. It follows Hakata Bay's shore past Nishijin and Ohori Park, crosses the city centre at Tenjin and Nakasu-Kawabata, then reaches Hakata Station and the domestic terminal. Every station is included, so either direction is a full terminal-to-terminal run.

Route and transfers

The map keeps the line's real east–west sweep: a gentle rise from Meinohama to Tojinmachi, the straight stretch under the old castle town, and the final climb north-east to the airport. Change to the Hakozaki Line at Nakasu-Kawabata and to the Nanakuma Line at Hakata to build longer journeys in Route Planner. Tenjin and the Nanakuma Line's Tenjin-minami are separate stations here, as they are on the network. West of Meinohama, JR Chikuhi Line trains run through onto the subway; the city's six-car fleet includes the 1000N and 2000N series and the newer 4000 series, which the mascot shows.

Typing rhythm

姪浜 is めいのはま — the の is easy to drop. 西新 reads にしじん, 唐人町 is とうじんまち, and 大濠公園 is おおほりこうえん, where the doubled お and ほ come close together. 東比恵 (ひがしひえ) rewards a steady hand on the two ひ. Finish on 福岡空港 (ふくおかくうこう), whose long vowels suit kana mode; kanji mode practises the written names instead.

Line data

Everything below is derived from the station data the game runs on, so it always matches what you actually type on the 空港線 — all 13 stops of it.

How much typing is this?

Typing every station name on this line takes 117 keystrokes, an average of 9 per station. The longest name is 中洲川端 (nakasu-kawabata) at 14 keystrokes; the shortest is 祇園 (gion) at 5. Those counts come from running each name's kana through the game's own romaji engine, so they are what your fingers actually do — not the length of the printed spelling.

Along the way: 0 names contain a small っ, which doubles the next consonant; 0 contain a small ゃ, ゅ or ょ, where the engine accepts both the Hepburn and Kunrei spellings (sha or sya, shu or syu); and 4 end in ん, whose trailing n folds into whatever comes next rather than standing alone.

Where you can change trains

2 of the 13 stations on this line connect to another line in the game. Follow any symbol to that line's guide.
