Overview

The Sakurajima Line (P), marketed as the JR Yumesaki Line, runs 4.1 km and 4 stations from Nishikujo to Sakurajima along the north bank of the Aji River. Its numbers start at P14 because they continue from the Osaka Loop Line: the shared interchange at Nishikujo is O14 there and P14 here. The 1898 freight-era line was rebranded Yumesaki in 2001 for the opening of Universal Studios Japan.

Along the route

Out of Nishikujo comes Ajikawaguchi, still a working freight terminal, and then Universal City — a station built with the theme park, whose gates are a step from the platform and whose trains are often dressed up for whatever the park is running. Sakurajima sits quietly at the end, on the edge of Osaka Bay. The line wore Loop Line red until the P route symbol arrived in March 2015 and turned it navy.

Why play it

Four stations and over in moments, but universal-city waits at the end as a long katakana finale. The game's cheeriest sub-minute run.

Line data

Everything below is derived from the station data the game runs on, so it always matches what you actually type on the 桜島線 — all 4 stops of it.

How much typing is this?

Typing every station name on this line takes 49 keystrokes, an average of 12.3 per station. The longest name is ユニバーサルシティ (universal-city) at 17 keystrokes; the shortest is 西九条 (nishikujo) at 10. Those counts come from running each name's kana through the game's own romaji engine, so they are what your fingers actually do — not the length of the printed spelling.

Along the way: 0 names contain a small っ, which doubles the next consonant; 1 contain a small ゃ, ゅ or ょ, where the engine accepts both the Hepburn and Kunrei spellings (sha or sya, shu or syu); and 0 end in ん, whose trailing n folds into whatever comes next rather than standing alone.

Where you can change trains

1 of the 4 stations on this line connect to another line in the game. Follow any symbol to that line's guide.
