Overview

The Chuo-Sobu Line (Local) (JB) is the long all-stops service that crosses the capital region east to west, ambling from Mitaka out to Chiba across 39 stations — one of the longest runs in the game. Its canary-yellow E231 series is the line's signature look, deliberately contrasted with the orange rapid trains running alongside it.

Along the route

It shadows the Chuo Rapid through Mitaka, Kichijoji and Nakano, turns east at Shinjuku and Yoyogi, then follows the old moat-side districts of Shinanomachi, Ichigaya and Iidabashi before hitting Ochanomizu, Akihabara and Kinshicho. Beyond the Edo River it enters Chiba Prefecture — Funabashi, Tsudanuma, Inage — finishing at Chiba Station. One line strung through Tokyo's western suburbs, its centre, and the Chiba commuter belt.

Why play it

A 39-station marathon that tests consistency more than raw speed. Names alternate between short and long with plenty of tricky readings (Shinanomachi, Nishi-funabashi, Higashi-nakano) — perfect for training a rhythm that doesn't fall apart late in a run.

Line data

Everything below is derived from the station data the game runs on, so it always matches what you actually type on the 中央・総武線各駅停車 — all 39 stops of it.

How much typing is this?

Typing every station name on this line takes 355 keystrokes, an average of 9.1 per station. The longest name is 下総中山 (shimosa-nakayama) at 16 keystrokes; the shortest is 平井 (hirai) at 5. Those counts come from running each name's kana through the game's own romaji engine, so they are what your fingers actually do — not the length of the printed spelling.

Along the way: 0 names contain a small っ, which doubles the next consonant; 5 contain a small ゃ, ゅ or ょ, where the engine accepts both the Hepburn and Kunrei spellings (sha or sya, shu or syu); and 0 end in ん, whose trailing n folds into whatever comes next rather than standing alone.

Where you can change trains

27 of the 39 stations on this line connect to another line in the game. Follow any symbol to that line's guide.

Marked with a star: 中野・新宿 — the major interchanges, which the maps always label and the game marks with a heavier arrival stamp.
