Overview

The Keihin-Tohoku Line (JK) runs the full north–south length of the capital region, from Omiya in the north down to Ofuna in the south across 47 stations — including the Negishi Line south of Yokohama, which through-runs under the same numbering. That makes it one of the longest lines in the game. Its sky-blue commuter trains shadow the eastern half of the Yamanote loop, switching to rapid operation during the day and skipping some stops.

Along the route

Omiya and Urawa are Saitama's commuter heartland; once inside Tokyo the line calls at Akabane, Ueno, Akihabara, Tokyo and Shinagawa, running parallel to the Yamanote for its entire eastern arc — every commuter's "other option". Past Kawasaki and Yokohama it becomes the Negishi Line, passing Sakuragicho, Kannai and Ishikawacho for the harbour and Chinatown, and ends at Ofuna, the gateway to Kamakura and the Shonan coast.

Why play it

47 stations spanning three prefectures, with the flavour of the names shifting as you go — from Omiya to Kannai to Hongodai. A genuine endurance run from one end of the region to the other.

Line data

Everything below is derived from the station data the game runs on, so it always matches what you actually type on the 京浜東北線 — all 47 stops of it.

How much typing is this?

Typing every station name on this line takes 414 keystrokes, an average of 8.8 per station. The longest name is さいたま新都心 (saitama-shintoshin) at 18 keystrokes; the shortest is 上野 (ueno) at 4. Those counts come from running each name's kana through the game's own romaji engine, so they are what your fingers actually do — not the length of the printed spelling.

Along the way: 2 names contain a small っ, which doubles the next consonant; 6 contain a small ゃ, ゅ or ょ, where the engine accepts both the Hepburn and Kunrei spellings (sha or sya, shu or syu); and 1 end in ん, whose trailing n folds into whatever comes next rather than standing alone.

Where you can change trains

29 of the 47 stations on this line connect to another line in the game. Follow any symbol to that line's guide.

Marked with a star: 品川・新橋・東京・上野 — the major interchanges, which the maps always label and the game marks with a heavier arrival stamp.
