This 27-station section of the Hakodate Line runs from Otaru through Sapporo to Iwamizawa. It includes every passenger stop along that section, rather than only rapid-service stops. The vehicle illustration represents a silver-and-green JR Hokkaido 733 series train.
Coast, city and plain
The route starts in Otaru, passes the coastal stations toward Zenibako, and enters Sapporo through Teine and Kotoni. East of Sapporo it continues through Shiroishi, Nopporo and Ebetsu to Iwamizawa. This is the Sapporo-area section, not the entire Hakodate Main Line to Hakodate and Asahikawa.
Change at Soen for the Gakuen-Toshi Line and at Shiroishi for the Chitose Line. JR 札幌 connects with the subway's さっぽろ. The JR and subway stations named 琴似 and 白石 are separate locations. Station numbers keep the real S, unlettered 01, H and A sequence.
Short names can be deceptive
銭函 is ぜにばこ, 大麻 is おおあさ, and 幌向 is ほろむい. 小樽築港 includes the small っ in ちっこう, while 発寒 starts with はっ. Work through those consonant changes slowly before attempting the full 27-station endurance run in either direction.

How much typing is this?
Typing every station name on this line takes 215 keystrokes, an average of 8 per station. The longest name is 稲積公園 (inazumi-koen) at 13 keystrokes; the shortest is 小樽 (otaru) at 5. Those counts come from running each name's kana through the game's own romaji engine, so they are what your fingers actually do — not the length of the printed spelling.
Along the way: 5 names contain a small っ, which doubles the next consonant; 1 contain a small ゃ, ゅ or ょ, where the engine accepts both the Hepburn and Kunrei spellings (sha or sya, shu or syu); and 3 end in ん, whose trailing n folds into whatever comes next rather than standing alone.
Where you can change trains
3 of the 27 stations on this line connect to another line in the game. Follow any symbol to that line's guide.
