Overview
The Victoria line is the Underground's fast one. Opened in stages between 1968 and 1971, its 16 stations run about 21 km from Brixton in the south to Walthamstow Central in the north-east, and every single one is underground — the only Tube line where that is true. It was built with automatic train operation from the start, and it still runs one of the most intensive services on the network, up to 36 trains an hour at the peak.
Along the route
From Brixton the line climbs north through Stockwell and Vauxhall, crosses the river, and threads the West End: Victoria, Green Park, Oxford Circus, Warren Street. Euston and King's Cross St. Pancras come next — two mainline termini back to back, which is a large part of why the line exists. Then it swings north-east through Highbury & Islington and Finsbury Park, and finishes with the run out to Seven Sisters, Tottenham Hale, Blackhorse Road and Walthamstow Central.
Almost every stop is an interchange with something. Within this game it meets the Bakerloo line at Oxford Circus and the Jubilee at Green Park.
Why play it
Sixteen stations is the shortest London run in the game, and the names are mostly short and blunt — Brixton, Euston, Pimlico, Vauxhall. Then King's Cross St. Pancras arrives: 24 keystrokes, the longest name on the line by a wide margin, sitting right in the middle of the route where you have built up speed. It is the closest thing London has to a rhythm-breaker, and it is worth slowing down for.
