Overview
The Takasaki Line (JU) heads northwest from Omiya across the northern Saitama plain to Takasaki in Gunma, 19 stations in all. South of Omiya it shares both tracks and JU numbering with the Utsunomiya Line; beyond it the two part ways. Orange-and-green Shonan livery is the traditional look of the corridor.
Along the route
Past Omiya come Miyahara, Ageo and Okegawa — textbook Saitama commuter suburbs. Kumagaya is a Shinkansen stop and one of the hottest cities in Japan each summer. The line crosses the Tone River into Gunma for Honjo, Shinmachi and finally Takasaki, with Mount Akagi and Mount Haruna visible off to the west on a clear day.
Why play it
A medium-long 19-station run of mostly plain, two- or three-mora place names, so the pace stays even. As the Utsunomiya Line's twin, it's fun to run both back to back and compare.

How much typing is this?
Typing every station name on this line takes 139 keystrokes, an average of 7.3 per station. The longest name is 北鴻巣 (kita-konosu) at 11 keystrokes; the shortest is 上尾 (ageo) at 4. Those counts come from running each name's kana through the game's own romaji engine, so they are what your fingers actually do — not the length of the printed spelling.
Along the way: 0 names contain a small っ, which doubles the next consonant; 2 contain a small ゃ, ゅ or ょ, where the engine accepts both the Hepburn and Kunrei spellings (sha or sya, shu or syu); and 0 end in ん, whose trailing n folds into whatever comes next rather than standing alone.
