Overview

The Joban Line (Rapid) (JJ) leaves Ueno and reaches Toride in just 10 stops — the briskest commuter service on the Joban corridor. Green is its identity colour, worked by blue-banded E531 and E231 series sets. Since the Ueno-Tokyo Line opened, many runs now continue south through Tokyo and Shinagawa.

Along the route

After Ueno and Nippori, Mikawashima and Minami-Senju still carry the old Arakawa-ward atmosphere. The line crosses the Sumida and then the Arakawa to reach Kita-Senju, a vast interchange, before opening up through Matsudo and Kashiwa across the northern Chiba suburbs to Toride on the Tone River.

Why play it

Ten stations, one clean burst from end to end. The names are short with almost no unusual readings, so it's the natural pick when you want a pure speed run.

Line data

Everything below is derived from the station data the game runs on, so it always matches what you actually type on the 常磐線快速 — all 10 stops of it.

How much typing is this?

Typing every station name on this line takes 77 keystrokes, an average of 7.7 per station. The longest name is 三河島 (mikawashima) at 11 keystrokes; the shortest is 上野 (ueno) at 4. Those counts come from running each name's kana through the game's own romaji engine, so they are what your fingers actually do — not the length of the printed spelling.

Along the way: 1 names contain a small っ, which doubles the next consonant; 2 contain a small ゃ, ゅ or ょ, where the engine accepts both the Hepburn and Kunrei spellings (sha or sya, shu or syu); and 0 end in ん, whose trailing n folds into whatever comes next rather than standing alone.

Where you can change trains

9 of the 10 stations on this line connect to another line in the game. Follow any symbol to that line's guide.

Marked with a star: 上野 — the major interchanges, which the maps always label and the game marks with a heavier arrival stamp.
