Overview

The Nagahori Tsurumi-ryokuchi Line (N) opened in 1990 for the international garden and greenery expo held at Tsurumi-ryokuchi. It was Japan's first linear-motor "mini subway", with a tunnel and trains a size smaller than usual, and covers 17 stations and about 15 km from Taisho to Kadoma-minami.

Along the route

Leaving Taisho, it quickly reaches Dome-mae Chiyozaki beneath Kyocera Dome Osaka, then heads east under Nagahori-dori through Shinsaibashi, Nagahoribashi and Matsuyamachi to Tamatsukuri and Morinomiya, close by Osaka Castle. From Osaka Business Park and Kyobashi it swings north to the old expo site at Tsurumi-ryokuchi and Kadoma-minami.

Why play it

A middle-distance run of 17 stops that bends right around the city, trading downtown for suburban parkland — and Osaka Business Park drops a long katakana name into the middle just as your rhythm settles.

How much typing is this?

Typing every station name on this line takes 220 keystrokes, an average of 12.9 per station. The longest name is 谷町六丁目 (tanimachi-rokuchome) at 19 keystrokes; the shortest is 大正 (taisho) at 7. Those counts come from running each name's kana through the game's own romaji engine, so they are what your fingers actually do — not the length of the printed spelling.

Along the way: 0 names contain a small っ, which doubles the next consonant; 5 contain a small ゃ, ゅ or ょ, where the engine accepts both the Hepburn and Kunrei spellings (sha or sya, shu or syu); and 0 end in ん, whose trailing n folds into whatever comes next rather than standing alone.

Where you can change trains

9 of the 17 stations on this line connect to another line in the game. Follow any symbol to that line's guide.
