Overview

The Chuo Line (C), opened in 1961, crosses the whole city from west to east, running 14 stations and about 17.9 km from Cosmosquare on the Nanko waterfront to Nagata. It is Osaka Metro's east-west trunk, and at its eastern end trains continue onto the Kintetsu Keihanna Line.

Along the route

Cosmosquare sits on the man-made island of Sakishima; from there the line calls at Osakako, a short walk from the Kaiyukan aquarium, and Asashiobashi before tunnelling under the Aji River into the city. It meets the Midosuji Line at Hommachi, then runs east via Tanimachi 4-chome and Morinomiya beside Osaka Castle Park to Fukaebashi, Takaida and Nagata.

Why play it

Fourteen stops that swap seaside for suburbs halfway through — and it opens on Cosmosquare, a katakana name whose long vowels sit oddly against the plain Japanese names that follow.

How much typing is this?

Typing every station name on this line takes 140 keystrokes, an average of 10 per station. The longest name is 谷町四丁目 (tanimachi-yonchome) at 18 keystrokes; the shortest is 九条 (kujo) at 5. Those counts come from running each name's kana through the game's own romaji engine, so they are what your fingers actually do — not the length of the printed spelling.

Along the way: 0 names contain a small っ, which doubles the next consonant; 3 contain a small ゃ, ゅ or ょ, where the engine accepts both the Hepburn and Kunrei spellings (sha or sya, shu or syu); and 0 end in ん, whose trailing n folds into whatever comes next rather than standing alone.

Where you can change trains

11 of the 14 stations on this line connect to another line in the game. Follow any symbol to that line's guide.
