Overview

The Tanimachi Line (T), opened in 1967, cuts diagonally across the city from Dainichi in Moriguchi to Yaominami — about 28.1 km and 26 stations, the longest line on the network and the one with the most stops. Its deep purple is said to echo the robes of the priests of the temple district it follows.

Along the route

Running in from Dainichi, the line doglegs west at Tenjimbashisuji 6-chome to reach Higashi-Umeda, then turns back southeast along Tanimachi-suji past Minami-morimachi and its Tenmangu shrine, Temmabashi, Tanimachi 4-chome for Osaka Castle, and Shitennoji-mae Yuhigaoka, gateway to Japan's oldest state-founded temple, before Tennoji and the long run out to Yao.

Why play it

A true endurance run: 26 stops crowded with mouthfuls like Tanimachi 4-chome and Shitennoji-mae Yuhigaoka, the longest station name on the whole network.

How much typing is this?

Typing every station name on this line takes 323 keystrokes, an average of 12.4 per station. The longest name is 天神橋筋六丁目 (tenjimbashisuji-rokuchome) at 25 keystrokes; the shortest is 出戸 (deto) at 4. Those counts come from running each name's kana through the game's own romaji engine, so they are what your fingers actually do — not the length of the printed spelling.

Along the way: 0 names contain a small っ, which doubles the next consonant; 5 contain a small ゃ, ゅ or ょ, where the engine accepts both the Hepburn and Kunrei spellings (sha or sya, shu or syu); and 0 end in ん, whose trailing n folds into whatever comes next rather than standing alone.

Where you can change trains

10 of the 26 stations on this line connect to another line in the game. Follow any symbol to that line's guide.
