Overview
The Osaka Higashi Line (F) runs 15 stations from Osaka to Kyuhoji, almost all of it a conversion of the Joto Freight Line — a goods-only bypass around the east side of the city that carried no scheduled passengers for decades. Service opened in stages: Hanaten to Kyuhoji in 2008, Shin-Osaka to Hanaten in 2019, and in March 2023 trains reached the new underground Umekita platforms at Osaka Station, now F01.
Along the route
Out of those Umekita platforms it calls at Shin-Osaka for the Shinkansen, then works south along the city's eastern edge via Minami-Suita, JR-Awaji, Shirokita-Koendori and JR-Noe, meeting the Katamachi Line at Shigino and Hanaten. Takaida-Chuo, JR-Kawachi-Eiwa, JR-Shuntokumichi and JR-Nagase follow before Kyuhoji and the Yamatoji Line. Five stops carry a "JR" prefix to tell them apart from private-railway namesakes.
Why play it
A third of the stations begin with the same jr- run-up, making this the game's best drill in rhythm and prefixes. Fifteen stops is a tidy length for chasing a personal best.

How much typing is this?
Typing every station name on this line takes 179 keystrokes, an average of 11.9 per station. The longest name is JR俊徳道 (jr-shuntokumichi) at 20 keystrokes; the shortest is 大阪 (osaka) at 6. Those counts come from running each name's kana through the game's own romaji engine, so they are what your fingers actually do — not the length of the printed spelling.
Along the way: 0 names contain a small っ, which doubles the next consonant; 3 contain a small ゃ, ゅ or ょ, where the engine accepts both the Hepburn and Kunrei spellings (sha or sya, shu or syu); and 1 end in ん, whose trailing n folds into whatever comes next rather than standing alone.
Where you can change trains
5 of the 15 stations on this line connect to another line in the game. Follow any symbol to that line's guide.
